IDC recommends preparing now for corporate governance
legislation
According to IDC companies should start preparing in
advance for new EU legislation governing how data is
stored on corporate systems.
It is predicted that the EU will be taking on many of
the recommendations on corporate governance set out
by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act in the US . This being the
case it is likely that specific guidelines will be handed
down to UK companies regarding how they store data and
e-mails on their IT systems.
IT professionals should start to consider procedures
and technologies needed for compliance now in advance
of the new legislation becoming a reality.
Technologies such ILM, content management, write once
read many media, and e-mail archiving will all be valuable
in compliance with this legislation.
However this is largely a management issue, and tools
that provide IT Directors with knowledge about the content
and make up of their data will prove invaluable
